This is a survey of my mixed media paintings from 1991 to 2007. My influences range from 70's Color Field Abstraction, to 19th century American landscape painting, to the Pop Art of James Rosenquist and Romare Bearden. Start here.
I have always admired the figure, but my passion is color. In truth, I am very unforgiving of my drafting skills. Ironically, I approached drawing on a personal computer, (a demanding physical endeavor in itself) with more patience than traditional drawing. I began making serious art in 1968 with liturgical banners. At that time, I was an Augustinian Recollect friar studying for the Roman Catholic priesthood. One of my assigned tasks was to produce liturgical banners for our religious ceremonies. I drew my inspiration from Pop Art, record album designs, and the contemporary work of artist/nun, Sister Corita Kent who gained national attention with her innovative uses of text and color.
